Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Northern Illinois

How much snow is expected?

Get ready for more snow! A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday for all of northern Illinois, including the following counties: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will. The National Weather Service in Chicago says the snow should develop by Thursday evening and continue into Friday, with snowfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches expected.  "A period of heavy snow with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour is possible late Thursday evening into the overnight hours," according to the National Weather Service.

I lived in Evanston in the mid 90s and had great admiration for how everyone embraced the snow. It was just matter-of-fact. Back in CT now, I see such contrast. We cancel school for amounts of snow that wouldn't even phase you!   more ›

Rain, Accumulating Snow Possible this Week in Northern Illinois

What's the weather forecast for Feb. 18-24?

Northern Illinois residents, get ready to ride the weather roller coaster yet again this week. Temperatures in the mid-40s, rain and possibly even shovel-worthy snow are all in the forecast for Feb. 18-24. The week will start out with mild temperatures for Presidents' Day, with a high of around 46. There's a 90 percent chance of rain on Monday, then a chance of snow showers after 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Chicago. Monday night will also be sharply colder, with a forecast low around 16 and a wind chill as low as 1. Brrr! There's a chance for flurries on Tuesday with a high near 20. The wind chill could be as low as -7 on Tuesday, with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. Wednesday is expected to be sunny …

How Much Snow Fell in Northern Illinois?

Woodstock saw the most, with 3.2 inches, according to National Weather Service reports.

Northern Illinois saw a range of snowfall totals from late Friday into Saturday morning, in what was decidedly the biggest single-event snowfall we've had so far this season. Woodstock in McHenry County saw the most with 3.2 inches of snow as of 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
