Fighting Heat, Traffic And Muscular Dystrophy

Buffalo Grove firefighters collect money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Firefighters battled not the heat of a fire, but that of the sun on Friday, when they took to the streets for their annual fundraiser to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Stationed at the intersection of Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads, they collected donations from motorists, who dropped coins and bills into black boots. Donors were generous, the firefighters said. "I just had this girl say, 'It's my birthday. Here's my birthday money,'" and drop $20 into a boot, Bill Simmons said. The collection will continue this weekend at Buffalo Grove Days, when firefighters will accept donations at the first aid tent, during a concert and as they walk in Sunday's parade.
