Hypothermia Official Cause of Joey Frase Death

Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd reports that Joey Frase's blood-alcohol content was .09, but it was exposure to the sub-zero temperatures that ultimately claimed his life in the early morning hours of Jan. 20.

The cause of death for Joseph "Joey" Frase of Grayslake, whose body was found the morning of Jan. 22 near Campbell Airport, "is very simple," said Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd. "Hypothermia." Frase, 20, had gone missing from a party in Round Lake's Madrona Village in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan 20. Volunteers searching in a tree line near the area of Campbell Airport in Round Lake Park discovered his body at about 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. Given the sub-zero wind chills in those overnight hours, and the fact that Frase was wearing a hoodie and not a winter coat, "exposure can take you very fast," said Rudd. A memorial for Joey Frase of Grayslake will be held Saturday.

Joseph "Joey" Frase, 20, of Grayslake, IL passed away unexpectedly January 20, 2013. He was born December 11, 1992 in Arlington Heights, IL. Joey enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, working on his car, playing basketball, and, especially, fishing. He was the loving son of Catherine S. Frase of Grayslake, IL and Brett L. Frase of Arlington Heights, IL. Competitive brother of Brandon R. Frase, Grayslake, IL. Dear grandson of Ivagene and the late Charles Winfrey of McHenry, IL, and Gean E. Frase and the late Robert E. UPDATED: Body of Missing Grayslake Man Found Reports Family

Joey Frase, of Grayslake, went missing Saturday night after leaving a party in Round Lake.

Updated, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 From Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini: Today near 1035 AM, a body was discovered by volunteers searching in a tree line near the area of Campbell Airport in Round Lake Park. The body and clothing matched the description of our missing person, Joseph Frase. The Lake County Coroner’s Office and Round Lake Police Department are working to make a positive identification of the recovered body. The Round Lake Park Police Department is conducting a death investigation and further information will be available through them.
