Woodstock Elderly Woman Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run An 83-year-old Woostock woman turned herself into McHenry County Sheriff police on Thursday afternoon after she said she unknowingly hit and killed 6-year-old Brayan Silva near Union on Sept. 8. Varamae C. Phillip was charged with failure to report a fatal traffic accident and leaving the scene of a crime, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office said. Phillip posted 10 percent of a $50,000 bond and was released. Des Plaines Paramedics Attacked By Bees Des Plaines firefighters and paramedics were swarmed by bees during a rescue near the Des Plaines River Wednesday. Firefighters were helping a man with a serious leg injury along the river bank when a beehive was disturbed, officials said. The patient and emergency workers were stung. Libertyville Thief Maces Walgreens Employee Libertyville police are looking for a man who sprayed a Walgreens employee's face with a mace-type spray during a retail theft incident May 30. Police Chief Clinton Herdegen said the man entered the Walgreens store, 1470 S. Milwaukee Ave., at about 11 p.m. May 30 and started loading his jacket with boxes of Allegra. When a store employee saw him, the man approached the employee, grabbed her arm and sprayed her face with a self-defense/mace-type spray, Herdegen said. The man quickly left the store and drove away in a tan or light brown four-door vehicle with Illinois plates. Skokie Woman Charged In Fatal Crash A 23-year-old Skokie woman was charged in the crash that killed an 8-year-old boy, according to a police statement released Wednesday. Hanin Goma, of Skokie, was charged with one count felony aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, and one count misdemeanor driving under the influence. Goma was also cited for failing to yield at a stop sign and failing to provide proof of insurance. The victim, Carter Vo, was out with his bicycle before being hit and killed as a result of the three-car, chain-reaction crash. He was pronounced dead at 8:18 p.m. Vo was a student at Madison School. Wheeling April 24 A school bus was sent careening into a Wheeling neighborhood April 24 after colliding with a Honda Civic near Dundee Road and Schoenbeck Road. No children were on the bus at the time. The bus was headed north on Schoenbeck Road at about 3:30 p.m. and had a greenlight, said Duane Madsen, a school crossing guard who saw the crash. Madsen said the Civic came through the intersection on Dundee Road. The bus hit the front of the Civic, went off the west side of Schoenbeck, plowed through a fence and line of shrubbery before striking the home of Don Johnson, a 24-year resident of Wheeling.
