Poll: What Do You Think of the Lake Forest Teachers Strike?

By comparison, the teachers have asked for raises of 5.6, 6.5 and 5.6 percent, the newspaper reported. The newspaper reported that the district also asked teachers to begin paying for a percentage of their insurance. Although some movement has been made on issues such as health insurance and a two-tiered salary structure, the salary issue remains a sticking point. The Lake Forest High School District 115 strike came on the heels of the Chicago Teachers…

One Cool Cat: Boris Wows Patch Audience in Lake Forest

Attendees learn fascinating facts, see the real deal.

Boris the Bobcat looks cute enough to have as a house pet. But as Wildlife Discovery Center curator Rob Carmichael noted, "He's still a wild animal." Carmichael told the story of how the now 2-year-old Boris came to the Wildlife Discovery Center at Elawa Farm in Lake Forest as he spoke to a group of adults and children who turned out Wednesday for an "Ask the Expert" segment sponsored by Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch. A Russian couple originally owned Boris, and they took him on the road as part of a traveling circus along with more than 70 poodles in a trailer. Carmichael said he caught up to them in Indiana where the couple had mixed emotions about giving him up, but they knew he would be better off. Thanks to Wednesday's event, Boris is…

Better yet, did you know Lake County residents can visit this amazing animal that can run up to 40 mph right at the Wildlife Discovery Center (WDC) at Elawa Farm in Lake Forest? Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch has joined forces with the Wildlife Discovery Center as part of its "Ask the Expert" program to raise some money toward building that addition while giving Lake County residents a chance to meet Boris. A special free presentation by Curator Rob Carmichael will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the WDC, 1401 Middlefork Drive…
