Interfaith Service Brings Religions Together

Unity and diversity were emphasized during the annual gathering, held this year at St. Mary Church.

For Rachel and Manuel Rider, Sunday night’s interfaith Thanksgiving celebration at St. Mary Catholic Church was special. “Since our family is an interfaith family, this is a pretty meaningful service for us,” said Rachel Rider, as she sat in a pew before the start of the 20th annual service, organized by the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council and attended by more than 800 people. Rachel is Jewish, Manuel is Catholic; they are raising their son, Alex, to appreciate both religions. Interfaith Council Holds Thanksgiving Celebration

Annual event scheduled for Nov. 20.

The Annual Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration of the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at St. Mary Parish. The Interfaith Service is an annual gathering of Christians and Jews from many congregations in the Buffalo Grove/Wheeling/Long Grove area giving thanks and celebrating together. The event is open to all residents of local communities regardless of whether they are members of a participating congregation. A fellowship hour will follow the service. This year’s event will include contemporary bands, bell choirs and choirs from Beth Am, Temple Chai, Beth Judea, St. Mary and Kingswood United Methodist Church.
