WGN calls election for Schneider.
(Updated at 9:35 p.m.) Deerfield’s Brad Schneider thanked supporters and pledged a vigorous fight to win the 10th Congressional District seat as he claimed the Democratic nomination to oppose Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) in the Nov. 6 general election. “I knew we could do something special,” Schneider said, talking about his decision to run in May. “We did this with character integrity and class.” Schneider amassed 46.9 percent of the vote to defeat Ilya Sheyman, who had 38.6 percent, John Tree with 8.8 percent and Vivek Bavda with 5.7 percent. Calm returned to the campaign for the Democratic nomination for the 10th Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Over the last several weeks, Tenth District congressional candidate Ilya Sheyman and groups backing him such as MoveOn.Org have been attacking rival Brad Schneider rather than promoting any positive ideas of their own. They are denouncing four (4) out of the over seventy (70) political contributions Brad has made since 2000. As if 90% percent of his contributions to Democrats is not sufficient to call Brad a Democrat. By whose measure? As Brad has repeated since he entered the race last summer, 90% of his contributions were to Democrats, and 100% of his contributions were in the context of a candidate's position supporting a strong U.S. - Israel relationship. Karen May (D-Highland Park) has decided to vote for Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider in Tuesday’s primary for the Democratic nomination for the 10th Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. A new poll released today prepared by Public Policy Polling for a group supporting Waukegan community organizer Ilya Sheyman in Tuesday’s Democratic Congressional primary shows Sheyman with an 18-point lead over Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider. After reviewing the poll results, an editor from the independent Cook Political Report which analyzes House and Senate races, sees Schneider with a slightly better chance to win the Nov. 6 general election against Rep. State Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan), the Lake County Democratic Chairman, publically criticized campaign tactics ahead of Tuesday’s 10th District Congressional District primary contest for the right to challenge Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) in the fall. Earlier Wednesday, Link specifically accused one of candidates, Waukegan community organizer Ilya Sheyman, of a strategy the Lake County party leader fears could lead to a Dold victory in November. Continuing attacks between Democratic opponents is ratcheting up the intensity for Tuesday’s primary contest to earn the right to challenge Rep. With a week to go before the March 20 primary, Ilya Sheyman and Brad Schneider rallied their supporters Monday to make a final push to help them become the Democratic nominee to challenge Rep. Sheyman outraises all candidates for the 10th District Congressional seat including Dold.
While Democrat Ilya Sheyman has raised more money the first two months of the year than any candidate for the 10th Congressional District seat including incumbent Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth), he has received criticism from one of his March 20 primary opponents. Sheyman, a community organizer from Waukegan, collected $237,044.43 between Jan. 1 and Feb. 29, according to the report he filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Thursday while Dold raised $205,058 for the same period.
