Man Causes Disturbance Over Twinkie Policy

A customer at Buffalo Grove's Jewel sparked a call to police after he tried to purchase more Twinkies than the store allowed.

A Buffalo Grove Jewel customer intent on stocking up on Twinkies Tuesday was upset to learn that the store had set a purchase limit for Hostess treats. A Buffalo Grove police report states that a man “was making a disturbance” in the grocery store at 9:10 p.m. Dec. 11 because an official would not allow him to buy a large quantity of Twinkies. The store had set a limit of 10 Twinkies per person. Jewel announced Monday on its Facebook page that its stores were about to receive “what may be the FINAL shipment of Twinkies in the country.”  The Hostess company is being liquidated and the future of its popular treats is uncertain. Poll: Which Hostess Products Should Survive?

Hostess is being liquidated which means that some of the companies brands could be bought by another company and continue on.

Hostess won permission this week from a U.S. Bankrupcty judge to liquidate and sell off its brands, the Chicago Tribune reported. The bankruptcy of 82-year-old company will cost about 15,000 people their jobs immediately, with another 3,200 people to be let go in coming months, the newspaper reported. Although Hostess was a troubled company with more than $1 billion in debt, its iconic brands still generated more than $2 billion in revenue a year. So it is quite possible that someone will buy some of the company's products as part of the liquidation.
