Brent Mork will lead the girls team.
Brent Mork, who has been an assistant boys basketball coach at Stevenson High School since 2008, has been named the school’s new head girls golf coach. He replaces Andrew Conneen, who is stepping down after 11 seasons that included five conference championships, two regional titles, two state finals appearances and one individual state champion. "I’m very excited for the opportunity," Mork said. "Andy has done a tremendous job building the program to an elite level in the area and in the state. I hope to build on what Andy has done and continue to move the program forward in the right direction. It will be a challenge, but with the girls that are returning, it should be an enjoyable one." Mork has served as an assistant varsity coach …

The Arboretum and the Buffalo Grove golf courses will turn to e-marketing to attract golfers next season.
Buffalo Grove officials reviewed plans Monday for the village’s two golf courses, which include new golf carts, a detailed marketing plan and prayers that the upcoming season will be drier than the last. The Buffalo Grove Golf Club was closed for 19 days last summer due to flooding, after rain pounded the area, and the course was partially closed for another 12 days. In an average summer month, the course is affected by weather only three times, according to golf director Carmen Molinaro The course typically hosts 300 rounds per day and brings in $150,000 to $200,000 per month, he said, so it lost a full month of revenue due to the rain. “That is not a normal situation — not one that we are projecting in 2012,” he said during a financial …

This week's athlete is Stevenson's top senior golfer from the fall. Nick Geissler heads to Bucknell University next fall to play his favorite sport in college.
Nick Geissler didn't win any state titles playing golf for Stevenson High School. But that only makes him more determined to play well at the next level. There was some interest in Geissler's skills in the South. However, the Stevenson senior followed a path to Lewisburg, Penn. And when he arrived in October, the weather was nasty. "It was kind of rainy," Geissler said. "I tried to ignore the bad weather. The school (Bucknell University) was great. The facilities were awesome." So who did Bucknell sign up for golf next year? "He improved so much the past year," noted Stevenson's junior golfer Reed Aren. "We considered him a leader for us. His ball-striking is great." The name Geissler is well known at Stevenson. Nick's older sister, Sarah…

Buffalo Grove and Stevenson's top golfers survived the BG Sectional on Tuesday.
If every hole was a par 5, Grace Kil's life would be full of applause and awards. In other words, the Buffalo Grove High School junior can really pound a golf ball. "I hit my driver 260 yards," Kil said on Tuesday. "I got all my birdies on the par 5s. I would get on the green in two shots and then make two putts." Golf season is over for both the Buffalo Grove girls and Stevenson girls teams. The Bison shot a 342, good for a tie for seventh place at the BG sectional. Stevenson closed its season in ninth place (350). In better news, both the team's top two players, Kil and Stevenson's defending state champion, Stephanie Miller, will play again this fall. Both players will report to Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur on Friday for the IHSA …
