Girl Scouts of the USA has declared Friday, Feb. 8, as the first-ever National Girl Scout Cookie Day! National Girl Scout Cookie Day highlights the 5 Skills Girl Scouts learn through the World’s Largest Girl-led Business – The Girl Scout Cookie Program. Thanks to sites like Facebook and Twitter, Girl Scouts are seeing more cookie sales than ever before.
January marks the start of Girl Scout Cookie sales nationwide. Although the concept of selling cookies for the organization isn’t new, the way the sales are done has changed over the years. Before the social media craze hit, most of the Girl Scout Cookie sales were done traveling door-to-door. With the new age of Facebook and Twitter, sales are looking a little bit different. “In the first phase of our program, girls take orders from friends and family and travel door-to-door following safety measures. It's time to stock up on your favorite Girl Scout cookies. Not sure where to buy them near you? You can plug your zip code into the cookie finder on the Scouts' website to find out. Can't remember which variety you like best? When in doubt, buy a bunch — or check out the Cookie Guide. And just in case you were wondering just where all that cookie money goes, we did our homework. According to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, all of the revenue earned from cookie activities stays with the local Girl Scout council that sponsors the sale. Cookie Locator app connects cookie cravers with nearby sellers.
Are you on the prowl for Girl Scout cookies? Thanks to a new Smart Phone app, you won’t have to look far. Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) recently launched the new Cookie Locator app. The free download allows users to find the nearest cookie booths and a list of dates and times those booths will be open. “People often underestimate the number of Girl Scout Cookies they want to order and end up wishing they’d ordered more. Or they don’t know a Girl Scout who can help them,” Madelon Koerner, director of product sales, said. The new app is available to iPhone or Android users and is completely interactive.
