CDC Says the Season Is Here: Where to Get Flu Shots in Buffalo Grove

Here's where to get an influenza vaccine, how to recognize symptoms and what to know about treatment if you get sick.

Flu season is coming early in parts of the United States: This time last year, flu cases were lower in Chicago than they are now, according to data on Google's Flu Trends. (Buffalo Grove-specific data is not available on Flu Trends.) Overall in Illinois, activity is considered high now, while it was considered moderate at this time in 2011, according to Flu Trends. If you haven't had your flu vaccination yet this year, it's not too late. Cases of the flu are already rising above normal levels this year.

The holiday season is here and for most people it’s a very welcome time of year. Another season has also arrived that is not so welcome and has the ability to ruin most peoples’ holidays: the flu season.  Officials are already saying the flu season is hitting hard in some parts of the country and people – particularly those most at risk – are being cautioned to get a flu shot if they haven’t already.  December 2-8 is set aside as National Influenza Vaccination Week to highlight the importance of getting the flu vaccination. The South Central and Southeast regions of the country have reported the majority of cases and are reporting flu cases above the normal baselines, according to the Centers for Disease and Prevention. Stevenson to Sponsor Community Wellness Event

Sunday's program will feature dozens of health care providers and vendors who will be on hand to provide information, guidance and screenings. The first 1,000 people will receive a free flu shot.

Stevenson High School will sponsoring a free community wellness event, "Well, Well, Well: Everybody’s Got Something" from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the school.   The event will take place in the West Building Forum. Anyone attending should park in lot B.  The event will feature dozens of health care providers and vendors who will be on hand to provide information, guidance and, in some cases, free screenings. Flu shots also will be available, and the first 1,000 people will receive the vaccine for free, courtesy of Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
