Buffalo Grove Trustees Sworn into Office

The three village trustees who were elected in April were officially sworn into their new terms Monday night.

The three newest members of the Buffalo Grove Village Board were already trustees, but they had to be sworn into office nonetheless. Les Ottenheimer, Beverly Sussman and Andy Stein stepped off the dais Monday night, each placed a hand on their own bible and pledged to uphold their elected duties. They were sworn in by Lake County Judge Chuck Johnson, who previously served as a Buffalo Grove trustee. The short ceremony followed the canvass of vote returns. With all votes tallied in Cook and Lake counties, Sussman earned 1,435 votes, followed by Ottenheimer with 1,350 and Stein with 1,321. Write-in challenger Jeff Battinus secured 368 votes.

ELECTION: Voter Turnout in Lake County, Area Counties

Area voters reported little to no wait at polling places for the April 9 local election.

On April 9, just 17.62 percent of voters made it out to the polls in Lake County to vote in the this year's consolidated election, according to the Lake County Clerk's website.  Voter turnout in Tuesday's consolidated election was higher in suburban Cook and McHenry counties, but it was an average turnout for a local election in Lake County. Since 2005, turnout in Lake County has ranged from as low as 15.04 percent of voters casting their ballot in 2011 to as high as 21.90 percent voting in 2009, according to the elections results archive from the Lake County Clerk's website. Comparably speaking, during last November's presidential election, 71.18 percent of registered voters made it to the polls in Lake County.  Other counties also …

Where Were Buffalo Grove's Voters?

Data from Lake and Cook counties shows low voter turnout for many local races.

Did you vote in the April election? If so, you were in the vast minority, according to unofficial tallies from the Lake and Cook county clerks’ offices. There are 19,674 registered voters in the Lake County portion of Buffalo Grove. Of those, only 1,315 cast ballots in the village trustee race, according to data from the Lake County clerk’s website. That’s less than 7 percent voter turnout. The numbers were only slightly higher in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove, which claims 9,562 registered voters. Of those voters, 8.2 percent cast ballots in the trustee race. The three incumbent candidates for Buffalo Grove’s village board were the only ones whose names were listed on the ballot. While it’s not yet clear how many of the …

Three Long Grove Candidates Have 'Necessary Experience'

Letter to the editor

I have lived in Long Grove for 17 years and am writing in support of George Yaeger, Lori Lyman and John Marshall for Long Grove Trustees in the April 9th election. This election is of extreme importance due to the village issues at hand. All three of these individuals have proven their commitment to our community. They received the Endorsement from the Daily Herald, which states: “All three candidates…are experienced, knowledgeable, articulate and dedicated to the community.” They have the necessary experience to help revitalize our downtown. Combined they have lived in Long Grove for 62 years. With level heads, Yaeger, Lyman and Marshall will present options on the road maintenance that can be debated and scrutinized by village residents…

New Polling Place for Vernon Township Voters

Voters in four Lake County precincts have been assigned to a new polling place this year.

If you normally cast your Election Day ballot at the Vernon Township Community Building, this story is for you. The building sustained structural damage during a winter storm, the Lake County Clerk's office reports. As a result, voters will head instead to the Prairie View Park Meeting Room, 16652 W. Buffalo Grove Road, Prairie View, on April 9. The change applies to voters in parts of Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire and unincorporated Vernon Township who live in precincts 262, 262, 266 and 267.  Visit LakeVoterPower.info to find your precinct number, a sample ballot and other election-related information. All polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 9. Related: Buffalo Grove's Contested 2013 Races
