State Board of Elections Rules on Sherman, Library Dispute

Indian Trails Public Library has been ordered to file amended reports pertaining to its 2011 referendum, following complaints raised by Rob Sherman.

A year-and-a-half-long dispute between Buffalo Grove resident Rob Sherman and Indian Trails Public Library may be nearing its end. Sherman filed a complaint in 2011 alleging that the library misused public funds to promote its referendum. After a series of hearings and revised complaints, the State Board of Elections (SBE) on Monday ordered the library to file amended reports within 30 days disclosing all receipts and expenditures pertaining to the referendum, which voters approved. Specifically, the order said, the library must detail payments to Holy Cow! Consulting and Donna Fletcher Consulting. Hasn’t the Village of Buffalo Grove had enough embarrassment lately?  Now Rob Sherman is trying to discredit long-time Village Clerk Jan Sirabian in his bid for the position (a job he has stated on his website he doesn’t actually want).  His leading campaign issue is that in 30 years of Jan’s service, one record of a meeting was lost. The real key to this campaign is the character of the individuals.  When confronted with the loss of the record, Jan publicly took responsibility for it. In contrast, Sherman has served two jail sentences and rather than acknowledge personal responsibility he implied a government conspiracy against him was to blame. In fact, the judge handling his case is quoted in the Chicago Reader as admonishing Sherman …

Election Filing Begins

Seven residents lined up this morning to be the first to file the papers necessary for village races.

Candidates for the April 5 municipal election lined up this morning at Village Hall to be among the first to file the paperwork required to place them on the election ballot. Current Trustee Jeff Braiman will run for village president, while incumbent trustees Steven Trilling and Jeff Berman, along with resident Mike Terson, will seek four-year trustee terms. Andrew Stein will run for the two-year term created by last month's recall of Trustee Lisa Stone. Longtime Village Clerk Janet Sirabian will run for another four-year term against challenger Rob Sherman. All of the candidates filed their paperwork at 8 a.m. Monday.
