Cut It Out

Area residents share tips and tricks for saving money at the grocery store.

Susie Paunan has coupon-clipping down to a science.  The Buffalo Grove mother of two visits coupon-focused websites, such as mashupmom.com and chicagonow.com/blogs/frugalista, and checks out newspapers for coupons. She often sees coupons for new products, as manufacturers try to entice shoppers to try new foods by lowering the price. Paunan stated that while she's "not the best couponer," she has still saved money. "I clip coupons to save money and to be more frugal," she said. "It's also a lot of fun. Grocery shopping can be such a chore, but now it's a game." Her personal record is buying four containers of hummus, several jars of spaghetti sauce, and "a few other items," all for about $5.  Her coupons are arranged in an accordion file, …

Indian Trails Cardholders Offered Discounts

Area businesses are giving deals this month to customers who show their library cards

More than 30 area businesses are offering special discounts to Indian Trails Public Library District's patrons through September's Smartest Card Month: Show Us Your Library Card promotion. Smartest Card Month: Show Us Your Library Card is a month-long activity that ensures children and adults have signed up for their Indian Trails Public Library District card. "The participation and generosity of these businesses is invaluable to this campaign," said Jennifer Koch, Indian Trails Library Public Relations Manager.
