The tragedy of [Dec. 14] at Shady Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn was horrific and beyond belief. Our hearts should grieve and we should pray for the families who have to deal with the loss of all of their loved ones and the especially sad and tragic loss of so many innocent young children. We all need to hug our own kids and grandkids and our own loved ones every time we can since unspeakable things do happen that in our wildest dreams we could never imagine. Though we can probably never do anything that will completely prevent tragedies like the one of yesterday we need to think of ways that can mitigate to the maximum such horrible events that we have seen too often. We need to really take action on meaningful gun control that …

School officials respond to the Dec. 14 shootings in Connecticut.
At least two Buffalo Grove area schools districts made little fuss during the school day as word spread about the school shootings in Connecticut that left 27 dead. “It’s not the kind of thing where we’d turn on the (TV) monitors,” Stevenson spokesman Jim Conrey said. On Friday, District 96’s elementary and middle schools focused on their regular routines, spokeswoman Betsy Fresen said, but she expects conversation about the shootings to occur next week. “I’m sure that they’ll be addressing this in the days ahead,” she said. Local and state police in Newtown, Conn. were called to an elementary school at about 9:30 this morning after a gunman allegedly opened fire at the school.
NEWTOWN, CT -- Connecticut police said Friday afternoon that 26 people, including 20 children, were killed at an elementary school after a gunman opened fire. Another adult was killed at a second location. The Scene Police in Newtown were called to the Sandy Hook School at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call Friday morning. Authorities said the gunman was found dead inside the school. He was reportedly armed with four guns and a high-powered assault rifle. Authorities said during a press conference that they have retrieved three weapons from the scene. I have on several occasions walked into Stevenson without a pass and without being stopped or questioned. Just last year while volunteering as a chaperone, I walked in the doors at the point where there is a security desk and bought a coffee from the shop in the cafeteria.
