West suburban Patch has been working on a series about haunted venues in the Chicago area. As part of the series, Burr Ridge Patch editor Sabrina Wu followed a paranormal investigative team that was studying the Country House Restaurant in Clarendon Hills. On the audio recording, you can hear investigator Lisa Jahke saying, "I'm going to take a couple of pictures ... in this room." Everything after that, specifically the loud whisper on the recording, has been identified as electronic voice phenomena (EVP). A Lake in the Hills man accused of trying to use a toxin found in puffer fish to kill his wife has pleaded guilty to charges filed in federal court. Bachner was arrested in June 2008 when he arrived at the Algonquin UPS store to pick up a package of tetrodotoxin, or TTX, which is a deadly poison found naturally in puffer fish and which has no known antidote. Tuesday’s storms left some Chicagoland homes without power again. Residents in the south suburbs are dealing with no power and downed trees reports the Channahon-Minooka Patch. As of last night, there were still 132,000 ComEd customers without power. ComEd expects 99 percent of those who lost power to be restored by midnight Friday, according to Lake Zurich Patch. The Face the Truth Tour, an effort by anti-abortion activists, has been making stops in towns throughout the Chicago suburbs. The group uses graphic images of aborted fetuses and unborn babies to display their message that "abortion is ugly,” according to Wheaton Patch. Pro-life protesters in Lake Zurich, this morning, got mixed reviews. Some people showed support with a thumbs up and others showed "the other finger," according to Lake Zurich Patch. ComEd has been working around the clock to restore power to Chicagoland residents who are still in the dark after the July 11 storms. As of 7 a.m. July 12, the company had restored power to nearly 400,000 customers; 367,000 were still without electricity. In the north region, 205,000 customers were still waiting for the lights to be turned back on. At the peak of the outages, the north region had 298,000 customers without electricity. Storms didn’t stop Gov. Pat Quinn’s trip to the south suburbs on Monday. Quinn aims to boost local redevelopment efforts, by signing two bills in Tinley Park proponents say will make it easier for south suburban towns to fund their economic plans.
