New Fence Satisfies Concerned Parent

A temporary fence was installed last week between Buffalo Grove's Camelot Corner Park and a Long Grove construction site.

Just hours after Buffalo Grove Patch published a story Friday about a parent’s concern for children’s safety near a construction site, a new fence was installed. The temporary fence provides a barrier between Buffalo Grove’s Camelot Corner Park and a new home under construction just over the border in Long Grove.  “I’m just very happy with the fast and prompt response. A minimal effort makes a gigantic difference,” said Eric Scott, who lives near the park. “There is a good safety barrier there now to increase safety at the playground for everyone.” Scott brought his concern public last week, saying he was concerned that children might enter the construction site and become injured by machinery or fall into the home’s uncovered basement. …

Thank you BG Park District. This is definitely an improvement until the builder does something else. This was an obvious hazard and at least BG had the sense to act quickly to fix it.   more ›

Construction Site Near Camelot Park Causes Concern

Village and park district officials say there's nothing they can do to protect children from a Long Grove construction site beside a Buffalo Grove park.

A parent’s plea for local governing agencies to address a safety concern near a Buffalo Grove park has officials from all three bodies saying they don't have the authority to intervene. Construction recently began on a new home in Long Grove’s Eastgate Lane subdivision, just behind Camelot Corner Park. A two-foot silt fence surrounds the construction site, and is the only barrier to the park, which is in Buffalo Grove’s Strathmore Grove neighborhood, near Prairie Elementary School. Thus far, the home’s basement has been dug, but no foundation covers the top, leaving a large pit visible from the park.
