Nominations are being accepted for the Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce's 2013 awards.
The Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce is once again looking for nominations of members of the community that care. The 2013 Heart of Buffalo Grove Awards will be awarded to community volunteers and caring individuals in the following categories — Community, Senior and Youth Volunteer awards, a Teach & Inspire award and awards for Business Philanthropy, going "Above and Beyond" and a group award, Together We Can. The Heart of Buffalo Grove Awards will be presented at a Celebration Gala Event on Nov. 23 at the Arboretum Club in Buffalo Grove. Buffalo Grove Village President Jeff Braiman and developer Chuck Malk discussed the downtown proposal Tuesday during a Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting.
Members of Buffalo Grove’s business community had a chance to learn more about a proposal to construct a downtown complex when developer Chuck Malk and Village President Jeff Braiman spoke at Monday’s Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce meeting. “The first thing people usually ask me is, ‘Why don’t we have a downtown?’ and the next is, ‘What’s with Town Center,’” Braiman said. Braiman praised Malk's idea to build a downtown complex on village-owned property along Lake-Cook Road, which is traversed by 105,000 vehicles each day. “It’s a dynamic plan. Buffalo Grove business representatives got an insider’s perspective on the Chicago Bulls Tuesday, when General Manager Gar Forman was the featured speaker at the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce’s monthly meeting. Forman, who has lived in Buffalo Grove for the past decade, has served as the Bulls’ general manager for four of his 15 years on its staff. “This season, to this point, we’ve had a certain amount of success,” he said. Forman spoke of injured players (officials hope Derrick Rose is “coming back this year and fairly soon,” he said) and the team’s recruitment process as he fielded questions from NBA fans in the audience. A number of Buffalo Grove area residents and business owners were honored this month for for their dedication and service to the Buffalo Grove community. The Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce presented its second annual Heart of Buffalo Grove awards Nov. 10 at a ceremony held at the Arboretum Club. The event, which was co-sponsored by Buffalo Grove Bank & Trust, was attended by more than 200 village officials, residents and chamber members. The 2012 Heart of Buffalo Grove Award recipients include: Jerod Loeb is member of the Fire and Police Commission. Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce members will collect food in shopping carts to benefit area pantries.
The Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce is asking Buffalo Grove Days parade spectators to help fill grocery carts with food donations. Chamber members will collect donations in grocery carts along the parade route. The parade begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 2 on Bernard Drive. Food donations will be delivered to local food pantries. Donations will also be accepted at the Chamber office during normal business hours from Sept. 6-30. For additional information, contact the Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce at (847) 541-7799.

The Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce will host a bags tournament at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in the Buffalo Grove Days beer garden. Two-person teams will play for prizes. Registration, which will be offered at the event, is $10 per person. Players can bring a teammate or ask to be paired with one. Players must be at least 21 years old.
