The Buffalo Grove Blood Commission will hold its quarterly community blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at the Buffalo Grove Park District Alcott Center. All donors 18 years of age and older will be eligible to enter a random drawing to win one of the following: All participating donors will also receive a water bottle from PNC Bank and a coupon for a free pizza from Jet's Pizza. Refreshments will include butter cookies donated by Deerfields Bakery and bagels from The Bagel Bin. Visit lifesource.org or call 877-543-3768 to schedule a donation appointment. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department will host a Dec. 21 blood drive.
Blood donors are invited to participate in a Dec. 21 sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department in conjunction with the Lake County Fire Departments Everyday Hero Program. The drive will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the fire department's headquarters. It will benefit LifeSource. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department, in conjunction with the Lake County Fire Departments Everyday Hero Program, will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Buffalo Grove Fire Department's headquarters, 1051 Highland Grove Drive. The Lake County fire departments have come together to help LifeSource, Chicagoland's blood center, meet blood donation needs during the summer and holiday months, when collections are typically down. LifeSource relies on the generosity of more than 500,000 donors each year to meet the local patient needs. BGHS welcomed more than 100 donors to its annual blood drive.
“Learning to save lives is easier than you think.” That’s the message that’s emblazoned across the front of the T-shirt I received Wednesday after donating blood at Buffalo Grove High School’s annual drive. As a longtime blood donor, the process is about as easy as breathing for me. So signing up for the school’s drive seemed like a natural way to help out in the community, as all Patch employees regularly do through our “Give 5” program. While watching students donate blood, I was reminded of what it was like to be a 16-year-old first-time donor. The Senior Class Board of Buffalo Grove High School will host its annual blood drive under the auspices of LifeSource Blood Services from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 16 in the school gymnasium. The community is invited to join students, staff, and parents in making a life-saving 10-minute donation. The entire process takes a total of about 45 minutes, from registration to refreshments. Potential donors ages 16-80 must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. A mini-physical is part of the procedure, in which a nurse will take the pulse, blood pressure, temperature and test hemoglobin levels. A photo I.D. is required to donate blood.
