Arlington Heights Family Seek Bone Marrow Match

A marrow registry drive has been set up at the Just Move It 5K at South Middle School, 400 South Highland Ave, Arlington Heights from 7-11 a.m on Saturday, April 21.

Seven-year-old Patton Elementary first-grader, Connor Lim, was diagnosed in May of 2009 with X-linked Hyper IGM, a rare immunodeficiency that causes patients to succumb to liver cirrhosis or lung infection at an early age. Basically his body does not produce any IgG immunoglobin and cannot fight off infection. This disease is so rare that there are less than 300 people living with this disease. For treatment Connor receives infusions of Ivig, a monthly hindrance that he needs to appear as a healthy first-grader. However it has been determined that the only definitive cure is a bone marrow transplant. This is why family and friends of Connor along with Be The Match has setup a Marrow Registry drive at the Just Move It 5K at South Middle …

Viewfinder: Health Fair Showcases Services

Attendees at Buffalo Grove's health fair received free massages and information about how to improve their lives.

Even though her face was pressed against the message therapist’s chair, Lisa McCloskey felt pretty good. And for that, she could thank Kimberly Miner, a message therapist and one of 30 exhibitors at health and wellness fair Saturday at the Arboretum Club in Buffalo Grove. Miner skillfully worked on McCloskey’s upper back and neck as the Elmhurst woman sat, bent at the waist, in a specially designed chair. “Up in here,” Miner said, when asked if her client felt tight. “Most of the time, people carry tension up in their neck and shoulders." “What a chair massage does in 10 or 15 minutes, it helps you stay alert, helps with pain and swelling of the muscles and also helps in blood circulation.” Although she appeared bent in an awkward, …
