The Buffalo Grove Park District’s BG Singers are collecting new or gently used musical instruments and monetary donations to support the Manilow Music Project. Founded by Barry Manilow, the charity provides musical instruments to schools where music programs have been cut due to lack of funding. “I heard about the Manilow Project on Barry Manilow’s recent visit to Chicago,” said BG Singers Community Outreach Coordinator Cathy Novak. “Music has been so very important in my life and the lives of all of my family and friends. I knew that the BG Singers would want to get involved to help bring music and music education into the lives of children.” To date, the BG Singers have donated six instruments and collected $1,500 to purchase 15 more …

Choir members will present more than 15 musical instruments to Barry Manilow for his Health and Hope Fund charity.
Members of the BG Singers will appear on Windy City LIVE Friday morning to present donated musical instruments to Barry Manilow’s Health and Hope Fund, which supplies instruments to school music programs. Manilow will be the show’s featured guest. The donation is part of the choir’s 2012 charitable program, which has benefitted such organizations as the American Cancer Society and in 2011 helped send musical instruments to Guatemala through the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club. "It’s part of being what I like to call 'the choir that cares,'" said BG Singers conductor Linda Rosen. This year’s program came together in just the last week. The BG Singers collected $1,000 by passing around an envelope at Tuesday’s rehearsal, which was attended by 68 …

Buffalo Grove Encore! singers enter Sing! competition to win money for charity.
In 1973, The Carpenters sang, “Sing, sing a song. Sing out loud, sing out strong!” Well, the traveling performing ensemble Encore! of the Buffalo Grove Park District BG Singers is taking that song to heart! Encore! was born in 1997 as many of the artists in the BG Singers wanted their short season to go on throughout the year. So this group of talented men and women became a traveling ensemble and has been to venues as large as Arlington Race Track and as small as a private party to perform. They were recently invited to compete in an awesome new online competition sponsored by Deer Park Shopping Center, right outside of Long Grove. Called Sing!, this is a national vocal talent competition that is being held at 13 different shopping …

Choir's weekend show pays tribute to love.
The BG Singers wrote a love note to an auditorium full of fans Saturday night at Stevenson High School. Actually, they sang many notes Saturday night, and they’ll sing them again today (Sunday) in the third and final installment of their 18th annual Choral Show, “That’s Love!” The show is a rousing musical tribute to Cupid’s favorite emotion. The program was inspired by the upcoming marriages of the children of three choral group members. “Our director, Linda (Rosen), her daughter became engaged, our choreographer, Charla (Silver), her son became engaged, and our accompanist, Jeannie (Workman), her daughter became engaged, all at the same time,” said Lindsay Grandt, performing arts coordinator with the park district, which sponsors the …
