OTB to Leave Buffalo Grove on April 22

Off-track betting will end Sunday at Adam's Roadhouse, but officials say the operation could return elsewhere in the village.

Off-tracking betting will cease at Adam’s Roadhouse this weekend, but officials say that doesn’t mean Buffalo Grove has seen the end of OTB opportunities. A sign outside of the location on Milwaukee Avenue announces that the operation will end April 22 and directs fans to head to the Players Pub & Grill in Prospect Heights beginning April 26. “They are telling us they still intend to be in Buffalo Grove,” Village President Jeff Braiman said, adding that the village is waiting for a ruling on whether an off-track betting facility can operate at Village Bar & Grill. The location was proposed in February, and officials later said it was unclear whether the site is within proper distance from Arlington Race Course. “Hawthorne is very much …

OTB Relocation Caught in Limbo

Buffalo Grove officials wait to learn whether off-track betting can legally operate at the Village Bar & Grill.

The process of relocating Buffalo Grove’s off-track betting facility from Adam’s Roadhouse to the Village Bar & Grill was delayed this month as officials wait to learn whether the operation can legally run in the proposed location. At issue is whether the Village Bar & Grill is too close to Arlington Park. By state law, “inter-track wagering or simulcast wagering shall not be conducted at any track less than 5 miles from a track at which a racing meeting is in progress.”  Hawthorne Race Course Chief Financial Officer Jeff Kras, who submitted the relocation request, initially told village officials and Buffalo Grove Patch that the mileage is measured in driving distance. Since then, race track officials have told village officials that it’s…

Off-Track Betting Timeline Delayed

Plan Commission workshop, public hearing regarding OTB in Buffalo Grove have been rescheduled.

A Buffalo Grove Plan Commission workshop regarding a proposal to relocate off-track betting (OTB) to the Village Bar & Grill has been delayed, village officials announced today. The workshop, initially scheduled for Wednesday, will be held March 7 at the earliest, Village Manager Dane Bragg wrote in an email. That will push the Plan Commission's public hearing back to March 21, with the Village Board's review now slated for April 2. The postponement is "at the request of [Hawthorne Race Course officials] and for the purpose of completing due diligence," Bragg said. Hawthorne Race Course Chief Financial Officer Jeff Kras, who is seeking permission to move the OTB operation from Adam's Roadhouse to the Village Bar & Grill, could not …

I still think this is a bad idea and I cannot understand why village officials can't see how ridiculous it is to have an OTB on the village campus. Is the Village Bar & Grill doing so badly financially that they need to bring in an OTB to increase business? How do we stop this?   more ›

OTB Seeks New Home at Village Grill

Buffalo Grove officials are considering a proposal from Hawthorne Race Course to move off-track betting from Adam's Roadhouse to the restaurant on the village's municipal campus.

Off-track betting is in the early stages of relocating within Buffalo Grove, after village officials reviewed a proposal Monday for the facility to move from Adam’s Roadhouse to the Village Bar & Grill. Hawthorne Race Course is seeking permission to move OTB to the banquet room at the south end of Village Bar & Grill, where it would have a separate entrance from the main dining room. The move would require Hawthorne to enter a lease with the Village of Buffalo Grove, which owns the property. Village officials voted 5-1 Monday, with Trustee Beverly Sussman dissenting, to send the proposal to the Plan Commission for review. Beginning next week, Plan Commissioners will examine issues such as parking — overflow space would likely be required …

Catering Services Approved for OTB Site

Buffalo Grove officials signed off on a license that will allow Progressive Management Services to provide food and drink to off-track betters at the former Adam's Roadhouse location.

Off-track betters in Buffalo Grove will soon have access to food and drink courtesy of The Arboretum Club. Progressive Management Services LLC, which serves the village-owned golf club, gained permission from the village Monday to temporarily cater food and alcoholic beverages to 301 N. Milwaukee Ave., home of the former Adam’s Roadhouse. Adam’s Roadhouse closed its restaurant over the summer, but the OTB operation continues to be run by Hawthorn Race Course. Buffalo Grove trustees voted 4-2 to allow Progressive Management to provide service at the site, with Andrew Stein and Beverly Sussman casting the dissenting votes. “The Arboretum is terrific,” Sussman said. “But it is for OTB. I have always been against OTB.” The license was granted …

Restaurant, OTB Property Owner Faces Foreclosure

The owner Adam's Roadhouse is reportedly unsure whether he will renew his lease; off-track betting operator plans to remain in the village.

The future of Adam’s Roadhouse is uncertain, with the owner of the property in foreclosure, according to a report by the Journal & Topics. Tenants of the building at 301 N. Milwaukee Avenue include the restaurant and the off-track betting (OTB) operation run by Hawthorn Race Course. The owner of Adam’s Roadhouse told the Journal that unsure if he will renew his lease when it expires next month. Meanwhile, a Hawthorn representative said he is committed to keeping OTB in Buffalo Grove. He said it could continue at its current location or the facility could request a new location. I grew up down the street from this location. It's been a lot of different places over the past 30 years. Doesn't really seem like anybody has had any success with it. So this really isn't a surprise to read about.   more ›
