Lawlor Elected Chairman of the Lake County Board

Key priorities: Fiscal discipline, extend Route 53.

Today, the Lake County Board elected Aaron Lawlor as its chairman and Carol Calabresa (District 15, Libertyville) as its vice-chair.  Lawlor, 30, was also sworn into his third term representing District 18, which includes all of Vernon Hills and Indian Creek as well as portions of Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove and unincorporated Lake County.  As he took over the gavel, Lawlor stated, "there is a lot of change among this board today, but our priorities remain the same. Together we will continue our strong record of fiscal responsibility and maintain our AAA bond rating."  Lawlor also pledged to work vigorously to advance the Route 53 Extension project. Lawlor Selected as Edgar Fellow

Aaron Lawlor will join other chosen fellows for an executive training program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Lake County Board Member Aaron Lawlor was recently selected as one of 40 emerging Illinois leaders to participate in the inaugural Edgar Fellow program, an initiative designed by former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar to promote responsible and responsive leadership. "It's an honor to be selected," Lawlor said. "Governor Edgar's initiative to bring emerging leaders together from all corners of the state and both sides of the aisle is exactly what Illinois needs right now. I look forward to the program and working with other Edgar Fellows in the years to come." Proposed Limit on Landscape Waste Burning Leaves Residents Fuming

New rules would restrict open burning of leaves, brush, and small branches in unincorporated areas surrounding Stevenson High School.

Approximately 30 people came to discuss proposed restrictions on landscape waste burning in unincorporated areas near Stevenson High School at a meeting held by the Lake County Board, May 9. Philip Rovang, Lake County planner, explained the proposed restrictions. He also stated that the Villages of Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove, and Vernon Hills all prohibit open burning.  Under the proposed rules, landscape waste such as leaves, brush, small branches, and similar materials would be allowed to burn.  Burn times would be restricted to April, May, October, and November; during those months, burning would be restricted to Monday through Saturday, from 5 to 7 p.m., and on Sundays, from noon to 7 p.m. Campfires, recreational fires, ceremonial …

Thank you for your comments as I agree whole heartedly. Composting is the natural and logical and neighborly way to go. I had to close my windows again last night in order to get to sleep and to breath with without smelling that awful odor which I noticed around 9:00 and continued all night.
