I want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has entrusted in me the ability to serve in so many different capacities. Beginning as a member of the Buffalo Grove Zoning Board of Appeals almost 30 years ago, I volunteered to "give back" to our community and to demonstrate to our two young sons the importance of community service. After that, I was privileged to serve as Buffalo Grove Village Trustee, Buffalo Grove Village President, and Illinois State Representative for both the 51st and 53rd districts for the past 14 years. We have all seen many changes in our community. Thirty-two years ago when our family moved here, our exceptional schools and community services were beginning to develop plans for growth and …

We were greatly disappointed to hear that Representative Sidney Mathias ducked direct questions posed at his Town Hall meeting regarding his collaboration with and support for former Trustee Lisa Stone. Rep. Mathias not only endorsed her for Trustee, he served as Honorary Campaign Chairman. He refused to withdraw his endorsement despite her outrageous antics. He refused to support Recall, despite the revelation she was unqualified to hold office. And now, she not only says she endorses him and is affiliated with his campaign, but also that they are collaborating, working hand-in-hand to advance her legislative agenda. Rep. Mathias has been asked repeatedly to declare where he stands. Is he in league, as she claims, with the person who …

State Rep. Sid Mathias responds to questions from a citizen and reporters about whether he's concerned about the village's water quality and whether he still supports Lisa Stone.
When State Rep. Sid Mathias was hit with a question Monday night about Buffalo Grove’s water issues, he initially tried to defer to one of his fellow panelists. But the citizen insisted that his question was for Mathias. “I’m not sure there is an issue with the water in Buffalo Grove,” Mathias said. “There isn’t,” the citizen responded. “I agree with you,” Mathias said. The citizen later identified himself on Patch as Stuart Tindall, who has previously commented on posts by former trustee Lisa Stone. Stone has repeatedly raised concerns about water quality in the Pekara neighborhood in unincorporated Lake County that borders the village and draws its water from wells. Stone has praised Mathias on Patch, noting that he was her honorary co-…

New Illinois law lets drivers involved in minor accidents to move off the highway.
A bill sponsored by State Rep. Sid Mathias (R-Buffalo Grove) that will ease traffic snarls that result from fender benders on Illinois roadways was signed into law by Gov. Pat Quinn on July 6. Public Act 97-0763 will allow motorists involved in minor accidents the ability to move vehicles off the highway to the nearest safe location while the incident is reported. “This common sense legislation will allow minor accidents to be reported while reducing the frequency and number of back-ups that accompany car accidents,” Mathias said in a statement. “The law also provides for greater safety for those involved in accidents because they are able to move away from the highway and fast-moving traffic.” — Submitted by the office of Sid Mathias

State Rep. Sid Mathias said it's "an honor and a privilege" to serve on the Select Committee on Discipline.
State Rep. Sid Mathias (R-53rd) has been appointed to the bi-partisan House committee that will decide the fate of Chicago Representative Derrick Smith, who is facing federal bribery charges for allegedly trading official favors for campaign cash. “My recent appointment to the Select Committee on Discipline is an honor and a privilege. The alleged actions of Rep. Smith are disturbing and question his commitment to uphold the oath of office in an ethical and honest manner,” Mathias said in a statement. Last week, a Special House Investigative Committee leveled a charge against Smith, accusing him of abusing the power of his office for personal gain. Mathias, of Buffalo Grove, was named by House Republican Leader Tom Cross to serve as …

The town hall meeting was held June 13 at Vernon Hills Village Hall.
The status of the Route 53 extension project, possible weekend service to the Vernon Hills Metra line and retaining businesses in Illinois were among the topics tackled at a town hall meeting Wednesday evening at Vernon Hills Village Hall. Organized by 53rd District state Rep. Sid Mathias, R-Buffalo Grove, the town hall meeting also included Vernon Hills Village President Roger Byrne and Lake County Board member Aaron Lawlor. About 25 people attended the meeting to ask questions about whatever topics they wanted the panel to address. While time was spent discussing Medicaid and pension reform, other local issues also were on residents' minds. Mathias, who served on the Route 53 task force, provided an update on the Route 53 extension …

State Rep. Sid Mathias (R-Buffalo Grove) sponsored House Bill 5090, which will allow sex offenders to be charged with a higher-level offense if they misrepresent their age on the Internet when attempting to lure a child for sexual conduct. Many sexual predators seek out their victims through Internet services and falsify their age and identities. The prevalence of this has been seen on NBC Dateline’s “To Catch A Predator,” where offenders using networks such as Facebook and MySpace to gain the trust and entrance into the child’s home. “There are different ways sex offenders prey on their victims and it is crucial that we charge them with offenses that are comparable to the extent of their crimes,” Mathias said. “This simply enhances the …

Very gracious Sid, and we want to thank you for all of your time that you have put in in our behalf. You have done an excellent job, with the highest level of integrity. I don't think that there is any doubt that you would still be in office, had it not been for the redistricting. We hope to have the benefit of your abilities again sometime in the future. Thank you.   more ›
