Buffalo Grove has a population of approximately 45,000 people. There are more than 17,000 homes in the village.

Buffalo Grove police are a constant presence in the community, where they offer a variety of awareness and education programs. Those programs include a Citizens Police Academy, community forums on drug abuse, bike rodeos and Neighborhood Watch. The department, which is located on Buffalo Grove's Village Hall campus, is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

The Buffalo Grove Park District owns more than 418 acres of land, which is home to 50 parks and facilities that include swimming pools, a fitness center and golf dome.

North Central Metra Line - Buffalo Grove Train Station

Buffalo Grove's Metra train station is the mid-point on the North Central line, which runs from Antioch to UnionMore Station. The station was named the Sidney H. Mathias Transit Center in 1999 in honor of Buffalo Grove's former village president, who served from 1991-1999 and worked to bring the North Central line to fruition.

There is no attendant on duty at the station. Tickets can be purchased from the conductor. Parking is $1.75 per day.
