Taste Free Firehouse Chili in Buffalo Grove

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department will hold its annual open house Sept. 21. Find details about this and other upcoming events here.

Chances are you’ve heard about firehouse chili. Saturday you’ll have the opportunity to taste it when the Buffalo Grove Fire Department holds its annual open house. Free chili, hot dogs and popcorn will keep visitors nourished as they watch a vehicle extrication demonstration, see the difference a sprinkler makes in a burning room and get a close look at a Flight for Life helicopter. The event will also feature a kids’ fire safety smoke house, junior firefighter challenge and a fire pole. The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at the fire department’s headquarters, 109 E. Deerfield Parkway.

Then head over to Stevenson High School for Spirit Fest, where hundreds of people will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for simultaneous bubble wrap popping. The festivities, which will also include a 5K walk, dunk tank and fireworks, kicks off at 5 p.m. Sept. 21 on the school’s varsity football field.

Are politics on your mind? Swing by Starbucks at 1665 N. Buffalo Grove Road, where Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) will welcome feedback from citizens from 9-10 a.m. Sept. 21.
