Last week, TIME Magazine announced Pope Francis as its 2013 Person of the Year, but who is Buffalo Grove's Person of the Year?

Patch seeks to highlight those whose efforts have bettered the Buffalo Grove community over the past year. It may be an individual, a nonprofit organization, volunteer group or business. Perhaps you want to honor someone posthumously.

Tell us your pick in the comment section below.

Editor's Note: This is not an official Patch competition with judging for a "winner." Readers are invited to share in the comments who they feel influenced or made a difference in their community this year.

I think J.V. Springman should be Buffalo Grove's person of the year. He spends hours every week volunteering for our community. J.V. serves as chairman of Buffalo Grove Days and volunteers at Congregation Beth Am. He was instrumental in Beth Am's successful move this summer. J.V. even helps clear tables & serves coffee when we have a big gathering at the Continental restaurant! I am sure he does even more - as he is very modest & quick to thank everyone else. J.V. is truly an unsung hero of our community!

Absolutely agree. I've had the opportunity to be a part of various things that JV is also involved in. Rather it be delivering food to those in need; organizing community activities, collaborating with multiple organizations for a common cause JV has consistently proven to be thoughtful, pragmatic and inclusive. He definitely is well deserving of consideration for Buffalo Grove's Person of the Year.

He is definitely a "mensch"! He gets my vote!
