Buffalo Grove Resident Honored for Volunteer Efforts on Behalf of Veterans

Frank Del Barto received the 2013 Distinguished Service Award from The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association.

The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association presented its 2013 Distinguished Service Award to Frank Del Barto of Buffalo Grove for his outstanding work with veterans.

The award was presented May 19, 2013, at the association’s annual Freedom Award and Distinguished Service Awards Luncheon at the Standard Club of Chicago.

Del Barto has given countless hours to veterans as their pro bono attorney. He works on cases assigned through The John Marshall Law School Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic. Del Barto has filed appeals on behalf of veterans who are trying to resolve their disability compensation claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Del Barto recognizes that the VA claims system fails many veterans. Among his recent actions were his appeals of two veterans’ claim denials winning for them monthly compensation payments for life. Presently, he represents a World War II veteran, a Vietnam veteran and the daughter of a Vietnam veteran who are appealing their disability compensation claim denials.

Del Barto is a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Army Reserve attaining the rank of captain. He is a graduate of Airborne and Ranger schools. Del Barto is a member of the law firm of Masuda, Funai, Eifert & Mitchell working in the Employment, Labor & Benefits Practice Group providing advice and counsel on a broad range of employment and employee benefit plan matters.

He has successfully represented claims before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Illinois Department of Human Rights, Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on a variety of issues, including employment discrimination and federal and state wage and hour compliance.

Del Barto also counsels clients on health and welfare and qualified retirement plan issues, including 401 (k) plan corrections and fiduciary obligations under ERISA.

Del Barto received his undergraduate degree from The Virginia Military Institute in 1987, and his J.D. degree and the LL.M. degree with honors in Employee Benefits from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 2007.
