Filing Deadline for Library Board Election Approaches

Nominating packets accepted beginning Dec. 17.

Prospective candidates for the Vernon Area Library Board of Trustees may file nominating papers at the library beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012, and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2012.

The library’s lobby doors will open for filers at 8:30 a.m. on December 17.  A Notary Public will be on hand to certify petition papers and Statements of Candidacy. Prospective candidates needing notary services should bring an official ID.

On the first day of filing, all prospective candidates waiting in line at the library’s normal opening time of 9:00 a.m. are considered simultaneous filers, along with petitions received in the first mail delivery of that day. Petitions received by the library prior to the first day of the filing period will be returned to the sender. Petitions received after the end of the filing period will not be accepted, regardless of postmark.

The names of subsequent filers are added to the ballot in order of the date and time of their filing. The Consolidated Election will take place on April 9, 2013. All terms commence on Monday, May 20, 2013.

The last day to file nominating papers is December 26, 2012. Please note that the library is closed on December 24 and December 25.
