The Gift of Health

This holiday season, give the gift of health to your family and loved ones!

Over the last year, I have written over 370 articles in the hopes of helping my readers be healthier and “Wellthier.” In November, I published “Docere,” an article that explored the roots of the word “doctor” and its link to the Latin word “docere.”  “Docere” means I teach. I teach in the hopes of giving others the gift of health. In November of 2010, I wrote:

“The holiday season is here and Black Friday has come and gone. Everyone is talking about sales, shopping, and what is the coolest new item to get for your loved ones. “Jared’s Jewelers” is all over the T.V. and radio. Did you go to Jareds?

Instead of buying expensive jewelry and electronics this year, consider giving the gift of health to your loved ones. For the men/women who have everything, for the stubborn spouses who don’t have time to care for themselves, or just to say “I love you,” this year buy them a complete preventative health exam. Call your family physician’s office and schedule a full physical. Pay the co-pay or fee in advance. Buy a nice card that tells them how much you cherish them. Tell them how you wish them many healthy and happy years to come. Tell them you have given them the gift of health.

This year, take the time to care for yourself. Give yourself the gift of health. Don’t assume that all systems are fine. Make sure! Get baselines that you’ve never gotten before. Make sure that your EKG and spirometry (breathing) tests are normal. This will be some of the best information you will ever have if you need to compare a future event to your “healthy self” of today. In the worst case, you may uncover a very treatable and reversible condition that is just beginning.

Rather than spending the holiday cash on a spa, treat yourself to a complete preventative health exam. Examine your health as closely as you do your finances and standings football standings. Give the gift of health. Be happy and healthy and live a long life.”

While this blog has covered a multitude of problems covering a wide spectrum of health issues, it falls short of my goal: “giving the gift of health.” Diets and Other Unnatural Acts, from its inception, was meant to be the road map to health and “Wellth.” As a road map, it was written to serve as an easy to read, customizable, and holistic reference guide to health and “Wellth.”

If you have enjoyed this blog, read Diets and Other Unnatural Acts, and learn to be “Wellthy.” If you health has improved as you have read this blog, go the next step and read my book. The book is not a diet. It is an approach to lifestyle changes that can have powerful benefits for not only your health, but the health of your family and friends.

Diets and Other Unnatural Acts does not ask you to change how you live or to become someone else. It tells you how to be a better you! Could you be more than you are? If so, “Be all that you can be!” Read my book and share it with others.
