Stevenson Advances to State Bass Fishing Tournament

will advance to the Illinois High School Association’s state bass fishing tournament after placing second at an area sectional Thursday.

Anglers on the team included senior Chris Duffy and junior Trever Steinbrink, according to the Illinois High School Association’s website. Duffy caught a 1.8-pound bass, the largest hooked in the competition. Head coach Tim O’Reilly drove their boat.

Jacobs High School placed first (two bass, total weight 2.9 pounds) and St. Viator High School placed third (one bass, 1.6 pounds) in the tournament. Both schools will also advance to state.

High school anglers headed out around 8 a.m. on the Chain O’ Lakes in Fox Lake with the tournament ending at 3 p.m., according to the IHSA website.

Other high schools competing in the tournament included: Hersey, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake South, Huntley, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Prospect, Vernon Hills and Wauconda.

The state tournament will be held on May 6 and 7 on Carlyle Lake in Carlyle, which is in southwestern Illinois.
