Legendary Basketball Coach, Bill Probst has Passed Away

A local legend in the world of basketball, Bill Probt, 75, passed away Tuesday morning due to complications from a stroke.

The legendary basketball coach, Bill Probst, who coached thousands of players at all levels of the sport, passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 75.

Throughout his career, Probst coached kids from elementary school all the way up through the college-level. Along with the dozens of basketball camps he ran in the summers, coach Probst drove winning programs at St. Viator High School, Harper and McHenry County colleges, Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights and Immanuel Lutheran School in Palatine.

The man who lived and breathed the game of basketball, Probst spent much of his life on the court and continued to coach up until his death. Probst ran the successful AAU program, Northwest Basketball Academy where he coached seventh and eighth grade AAU teams.

According to the Daily Herald, Probts was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003 and into the St. Viator High School Athletic Hall of Fame just three days before his death.

Probts, 75, passed away Tuesday morning due to complications from a stroke. Services are pending.
