Grand Opening Festivities for the MAX Training Center in Buffalo Grove

The MAX Training Center in Buffalo Grove will celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday and Sunday, January 22nd and 23rd with a weekend of free sports and fitness activities for the entire family!

 

The MAX, which is owned by Jim Rebecca and Peter Miramonti, specializes in professional athletic training in baseball, basketball, and volleyball; along with speed, agility and plyometrics packages designed to maximize athletic quickness, explosiveness and vertical jump. The instructors (including former Chicago Cubs pitcher Bill Campbell and Marcus Robinson, former wide receiver for the Chicago Bears) are passionate about training young athletes and are committed to being positive role models in sports and in life. The MAX also offers small group personal fitness training and boot camps for those wishing to improve their physical fitness and stamina.

10:30 am to 11:30 am

Family Boot Camp with Certified Personal Fitness trainer Matt Kuhlman

Bring the entire family for an hour of high-energy fun and fitness! Ages 6 to 96

 

11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Enjoy tours of the Max facility and lunch (compliments of Buffalo Grove’s Jet’s Pizza – www.jetspizza.com). Come see what makes the MAX so unique!

 

12:30 to 1:30 pm

Baseball Tips with Bill Campbell and Peter Caliendo - All Ages are Welcome

Bill is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played from 1973 to 1987 for the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. Peter, whose list of professional accomplishments includes Director of the Pan Am Baseball Association, President of the Pitch and Hit Club and Coach for the Schaumburg Flyers, brings more than 30 years of baseball expertise to the MAX. 

 

1:30 – 2:30 pm

Speed and Agility Clinic with Matt Davis - Ages 12 and under

Matt was an all-state football and baseball player at Prospect High School where he played wide receiver and defensive back in football, and shortstop in baseball. He set several school records in both sports, and went on to become a starter in baseball all 4 years at Eastern Kentucky University.  Matt also played professional baseball for the Washington Wild Things in the Frontier League.

 

1:30 to 2:30 pm

Speed and Agility Clinic with Marcus Robinson - Ages 13 and older

Marcus Robinson is an 11 year NFL veteran who believes that dedication, hard work and perseverance are what it takes to become the best you can be at anything you do. He was an All State HS football player in Georgia in 1993, and at the University of South Carolina he earned honors in track and field. In 1996 Marcus achieved All American Honors in the 100 meter outdoor championships. In 1997, Marcus was drafted in the 4th round by the Chicago Bears. In 1999 he set a Bears single season record with 1400 receiving yards.

 

2:30 to 4:30 pm

OPEN GYM for kids and parents. The entire family is welcome to come to the MAX anytime during the 2-hour open gym for pick-up games of basketball and volleyball.

 

10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Just for fun…shop ‘till you drop!

For four hours on Saturday, local businesses will be showcasing their products and services – with a portion of all sales benefiting organizations that fight childhood obesity and promote youth fitness.

Free Personal Fitness Training with Matt Kuhlman

Personal Fitness Training isn’t just a job or a hobby for Matt Kuhlman, it’s his passion! A resident of Buffalo Grove, Matt has been a personal fitness trainer for the past two years and has competed in almost every sport imaginable. Not only are his workouts fun, but they are extremely effective.  Come experience Matt’s unique approach to physical fitness for yourself, anytime between 10 am and 2 pm.  No appointments necessary.

 

10:30 am to 1:30 pm

Bounce ‘n Bagels

While the kids are getting a work-out with inflatable moonwalks, slides and an obstacle course, come enjoy bagels, coffee and tours of the Max. Special thanks to The Fun Ones (www.thefunones.com) for providing all the inflatable fun!

 

11:00 am to 12:00 noon

Baseball Coaches Clinic

If you are coaching a youth baseball team, this free clinic is for you!  Come learn what it takes to build team spirit and what you can do to be the best coach possible. This program will be presented by Peter Caliendo and Chad Rebecca.  Peter brings more than 30 years of professional baseball expertise to the MAX and Chad is a professional baseball player for the Normal CornBelters.   

 

11:00 am to 12:00 noon

Basketball Coaches Clinic  

Presented by Don Rowley, David Hess and Ashley Sandstead, this basketball coaches clinic is for anyone coaching a youth basketball team and who wants to learn to become the most effective coach possible. Don has coached high school basketball for over 40 years and in 2007 was elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches hall of Fame.  Currently coaching basketball at Stevenson High School, David was an All-Area All-Conference Player at Hersey High School and set 6 school records in 3 Point and Free Throw Shooting. Ashley is in her 2nd year as the Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at Stevenson High School, and was a 4-year letter winner at Buffalo Grove High School.  She played college ball at Illinois State University.
