Bozin 'Makes Things Happen' for Stevenson

Junior Anthony Bozin scored the lone touchdown of the night for his Pats in tough loss to Lake Forest.

Was this really Stevenson football? How could the powerful Patriots have no points on the scoreboard heading to the fourth quarter Friday at Lake Forest?

Zero points?

It really wasn't so bad. Thanks to the Stevenson defense, it was only a 3-0 deficit at the time.

And then Lake Forest went up by 10 points. It was get-serious time for the Stevenson offense. That meant quarterback Matt Micucci went looking for the 5-foot-8 kid. And Anthony Bozin accepted the challenge. On Stevenson's lone scoring drive of the night, Bozin caught three passes. The final toss was 17 yards in which Bozin bolted into the end zone.

"At 5-foot-8, 160 pounds, he might not look like a bruising football player," Stevenson coach Bill McNamara said. "But he makes things happen on the field. He has that electric presence on offense and defense. Every time Anthony touches the ball, he has the ability to take it to the house. He is quick, agile, has great hands and is very athletic."

Bozin took time to describe the play that put the Pats on the board that night. Stevenson fell in Lake Forest 10-7.

"It was a little late," Bozin said. "But it was a perfect line drive pass. And our line blocked very well. I wish we had started a little earlier."

The Pats need this player because his speed pays off on both offense and defense. Bozin also can play corner back.

"This year, Anthony has been plagued with injuries," McNamara said. "We expect great things from Anthony as we move towards the playoffs. Having him healthy and on the field makes the 2011 Patriots a better football team."

Bozin was quick to credit the work of Stevenson defense. After all, surrendering 10 points in a contest usually spells victory for some teams.

"Our defense was doing great," Bozin said. "Our offense is still a little new. We have new line coaches so we'll get back."

McNamara is also a big fan of Bozin when the junior takes his turn on defense.

"His athleticism also makes him a great cover corner.'' he said. "His ability to change direction quickly allows him to stick with receivers like glue."

Recap: The Stevenson defense had its usual strong efforts from Carl Miller and "Q" Lorenzo. Also helping out were Arthur Polk and Jon Way (interception).

A little luck could have helped out the Pats. Quarterback Micucci also serves as the team's kicker. And just before he was to deliver the tying field goal in the fourth quarter, he was hit hard by a Lake Forest defender. His leg took the brunt of the hit and his 32-yard field goal attempt came up short.

Stevenson (4-2) is scheduled to host NSC Lake Division rival Lake Zurich (5-1) tonight (Oct. 6).
