How to Show Your Customers You Care

The holidays are a great time to reflect on the things that you’re most thankful for in your business. Atop the list should be the people that have made an impact in one way or another. Demonstrating your appreciation for your clients and customers is an essential part of business relationships. Customers need to know that they are more than just a transaction, and that begins with customers that understands how important they are to you. How you show your appreciation will likely vary from industry to industry, but a diverse approach is recommended regardless of field.

There are certain displays that are universal and should be a constant part of your interactions with customers. Be friendly and helpful. It seems simple, but applying these principals consistently will set you apart from any competitors who take a more lax approach to customer service. There are few things worse than for a customer to feel inconvenient and unwelcome. You and your staff should foster good relationships and take a genuine interest in the people who are helping to support you. Strong personal relationships can be one of the most rewarding aspects of customer service for all parties involved.

Another great way to let your customers know you care is to give them things that they'll actually use. Coupons and vouchers are flexible tools in demonstrating appreciation. Coupons themselves are very common, but you can set your business apart by defying conventions and catering to consumers’ specific interests. A coupon for merchandise that they frequently purchase is practical and thoughtful. Another way you can set your coupons apart is to offer extended expiration dates. Frequently, businesses will send a birthday coupon that expires just weeks after it arrives, forcing the customer to make a hasty decision or unnecessary purchase. A relaxed expiration date lets your customers know that the discount isn't so you can make a sale, but so that they can enjoy a price break in exchange for their interest or loyalty.
