Stevenson Crowns Homecoming King, Queen

Two Buffalo Grove teens are Stevenson High School's 2013 royal couple.

Two Buffalo Grove residents were crowned Homecoming King and Queen Friday afternoon at Stevenson High School.

Seniors Nick Perozzi and Ashley Vallapurackal learned they had achieved royal status during a pep assembly, where they were blindfolded and had a bucket of glitter dumped over their heads.

Perozzi, 18, said he was "a little surprised" to be nominated to the Homecoming Court. After that, he said, "I wasn't too competitive about it. It just happened.

Minutes after receiving her royal tiara, Vallapurackal, 17, said the experience was "weird" but also "cool."

"I wasn't expecting it, I guess," she said.

The two will attend the Homecoming dance with two other members of the Homecoming Court. Perozzi will take Cassie Masters, while Vallapurackal will attend with Venkat Mannem.

Other court members include Lauren Carrell, Michelle Kraus, Collin Habib and Arun Pookote.
