Cold Weather Will Close Buffalo Grove Area Schools, Businesses Jan. 6

By early afternoon Sunday, all local schools had canceled school for Monday, which was scheduled to be the first day of class after winter break.

Indian Trails and Vernon Area public libraries also announced they will be closed Monday. The Buffalo Grove Park District has canceled its preschool, dance and Discovery Kids programs.

Some businesses, including Buffalo Grove's Deerfield's Bakery, will close early.

The temperature is expected to get as low as 19 degrees below zero in Buffalo Grove Sunday night, with windchill readings as low as -45, according to the National Weather Service.

On Monday, highs of -11 to -15 are predicted, with windchill readings as low as -50.
