Symposium on Teen Substance Use

High school districts 125 128, and 214 will together sponsor a community symposium to educate the public on the dangers of teenage substance use and abuse.

"Teens, Drugs and Alcohol—What Every Parent Should Know," will be held in Stevenson High School's West Auditorium.

Admission is free, but to help with planning, symposium organizers
ask those who plan to attend to register in advance online at

Presentations from educators, law enforcement officials, health and
prevention specialists, and other community resource experts will cover the following topics:
* Information about the use of alcohol, marijuana and heroin, plus
inappropriate use of prescription medicines, by teenagers.
* Negative effects of alcohol and drug use.
* Symptoms and signs that parents and others can look for to spot illegal substance use, plus treatment options.
* Legal consequences for parents and other adults who encourage or enable drug or alcohol use by under-age students.

Audience members will be able to ask questions during a panel discussion at the end of the evening. Representatives from several mental health and treatment agencies will be present to provide information for those interested.
