First Lego League Robotics Team (grades 6-8)

What do you think of when you hear the acronym STEM?  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  The importance of STEM is recognized by the White House, which has launched a campaign, Educate to Innovate, to dramatically improve education in STEM.  As a result, today's education system is focused on integrating STEM principles into our classrooms to prepare tomorrow's workforce for our global economy.  PREP is proud to offer the first ever First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team.  Through this program, kids will employ engineering, technical and math skills to build and program a robot using Legos (tm) Building Blocks to perform tasks on a themed mission board.  Team members will also use science and creativity to research a real world issue based on this year's theme.  This will all be done in an environment that encourages and teaches teamwork.  All this will culminate in a regional competition December against 17 other teams in the area.  (Date and location forthcoming - transportation is not provided.)  Participants will be coached by the 2012 Illinois first place State Champion coaches.  Not only will kids be exposed to the different STEM principles, but they will have fun doing it!  For more about FLL, see www.firstlegoleague.org. 14 sessions
