Community Education Sponsors Prom for Adults, High School Students

This year’s Intergenerational Prom, scheduled on Saturday, April 14 from 6 p.m.- 10:30 p.m., will transport you to an experience that promises to be nothing short of an enchanting evening.

The annual spring dinner-show-dance event, sponsored by District 214 Community Education, will feature the alluring and magical theme, An Arabian Dream, as well as a 45-minute show that will highlight a variety of Middle Eastern dances.

Come and be beguiled by the performance of dancers from two locally-based dance groups: Troupe Namaste and Namaste Roses under the directorship of Jenny Hennek.

Watch the two dance groups display a lyrical and instinctive interpretation of music in diverse styles such as Turkish, Gypsy, Folkloric and Cabaret, and the use of canes, swords, veils and finger cymbals.

Lending true to the theme of the evening, adult and high school committee members have worked very hard for over two months to prepare for the prom.They are hoping guests will enjoy it as well as the venue that will be transformed into an Arabian getaway.

This long-running event is organized through Community Education with the main goal of bridging the perceived gap between the older and younger generations.

“Through the years, members of both generations come to the prom to have a great time but at the end of the evening, they leave with so much more - a lifetime of fun memories,” said Mike Field, Director of Community Education.

Committee members feel the same way. “It’s a different kind of prom. It’s sentimental but at the same time really enriching to watch both generations spend a wonderful evening enjoying each other’s company,” said Jack and Eloise De Carlo of Mount Prospect, both long-time committee members.

The prom will be held at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. Tickets for adults are $15 and $10 for students.

It has been a tradition for some of the older adult guests to bring their grandchildren and committee members are hoping it continues this year.
