“Today is an important day in the history of the college. Can anyone remember what happened on this day 43 years ago?" asked College of Lake County President Dr. Jerry W. Weber at the Sept. 25 Board of Trustees meeting.
Time sure does fly.
"CLC opened for classes on September 25, 1969, with 2,360 full-time and part-time students," said Weber.

Today, the college has a full-time enrollment of about 9,500 students and a total headcount of more than 17,500.
In the beginning, the college offered 224 courses taught by 80 full-time instructors. Today, there are 2,361 total staff members, including full and part-time teaching and non-teaching staff.

Tuition in the sixties was a mere $7 per semester hour. Today's tuition per credit hour is $93 plus related fees for in-district students.
Classes on the Grayslake campus in the sixties were held in a six-building complex that cost $1 million. Today the college has three locations: Grayslake, Vernon Hills and Waukegan.
