Buffalo Grove To Host 21st Annual Vienna Exchange

The high school's music department will host Austrian students and staff.

's music department will host 30 students and two staff members, Waltraud Warmuth and Joe Griessl, from the Landstrasser Gymnasium in Vienna, Austria, Sept. 15-26, as part of the 21st anniversary of the exchange program between the two schools.

During their stay with host families, the Austrian visitors will tour BGHS, spend some time in class with their host students, sample typical American foods and enjoy the sights of Chicago. On a couple of separate excursions to the city, they will have an opportunity to visit Millennium Park, museums, Navy Pier, North Michigan Avenue, the Willis Tower, Wrigley Building and Daley Plaza, and experience a boat ride to see the beautiful skyline.

Throughout more than two decades, students have been crossing the ocean from both schools, serving as excellent hosts for one another and goodwill ambassadors for their respective schools and countries. Musicians from Buffalo Grove's various ensembles have had the privilege of performing in Vienna's incredible venues, where the greatest classical composers once composed and performed.

“Anticipation of their arrival never gets old,” said Ed Jacobi, director of bands at BGHS. "It is as much a joy for us to host them and show off our beautiful school and community as it is for them to do the same for us when we go there.”

Buffalo Grove's music department is planning to go to Vienna once again in 2013.
