BGHS Student Organizes Middle School Clothing Swap

Michael Maley hopes his program will help London Middle School students gain some new apparel.

Students at will have the opportunity to enhance their wardrobes at a clothing swap, where they can trade clothes with their peers at no cost.

Michael Maley, a junior at and London Middle School alumnus, is organizing the swap. He came up with the idea after participating in a volleyball tournament over the summer.

“At volleyball nationals, kids look forward to trading jerseys with other kids,” Maley said. “I thought, why not do this back home in our community? It’s a great way to recycle, and for kids to find clothes that fit and match their tastes.”

Donors can bring clean and folded clothing to London's school office from Oct. 10-16. While donations will be accepted from the general public, the swap will be open only to London students during the school’s parent-teacher conferences on Oct. 19.

If the clothing swap is a success, Maley plans to hold another one later in the year, and possibly at his own school.

“We’re hoping to receive a lot of donations and participation. If the swap works like expected, students will go home with a refreshed wardrobe – all for free,” he said.
