BGHS Names November Students of the Month

Buffalo Grove High School has chosen Students of the Month for November, with selections based on the efforts and contributions of one student in each of the six divisions of the school.

Junior Leah Kopke of Arlington Heights was nominated as English/Fine Arts Student of the Month by English teacher, Matt Branham."Leah is an exceptional student in terms of her writing and critical thinking ability," said Branham. "She brings a unique perspective to American Literature class. When it comes to class discussion, Leah voices her opinion in a mature and creative manner, always keeping an open mind and willing to listen to other opinions. She has worked extremely hard to become a talented writer who can make connections and pay close attention to detail. It is a great pleasure to hear and read what Leah has to say."

Twin sisters, freshmen Anxian and Shuxian Wang of Wheeling were nominated by English Language Learner teacher/coordinator Stephanie Ramos to be honored as the World Languages/Social Science/English Language Learners Student of the Month. "Anxian and Shuxian Wang are exemplary students," said Ramos. "Not only do they work extremely hard in all of their classes, but they are a delight to have in class. They bring life to every room they enter with their loving personalities and beautiful smiles. They have earned the respect of their peers and all of their teachers. I am so honored to have these two girls at ."

Senior Robyn Freeman of Arlington Heights is Student of the Month for Student Services. "Robyn has been on the A Honor roll for the past two semesters and is on track to potentially accomplish this feat again," said Individual Resource teacher, Chris VanGrondelle. "She is currently a student assistant teacher at Longfellow. Robyn has been accepted by Bradley University and is hoping to pursue a career as a Special Education teacher. She has been on the bowling team the past three years and will be on the squad again starting this month. Robyn is a wonderful kid and a great representative for BGHS."

The Math/Science department recognized freshman Eugene Yakubovich of Arlington Heights for his achievements. Science teacher Nancy Conlin commented, "Eugene is such a good role model and positive leader in the classroom. He is an active participant in class, he asks excellent questions, seeking deeper understanding of the material, and he consistently has the top (if not one of the top) scores on all assessments. Recently he was willing to 'buddy up' with a new student to help him get acclimated to the class."

Career and Technical Education selected freshman Matt Shapiro of Arlington Heights as the department's honoree. Teacher Karen Roberts said, "Matt has done an outstanding job in Introduction to Business. His curiosity of the subject matter is so exciting to see. He has completed every assignment and project in an exceptional way. Matt goes above and beyond every expectation. As his teacher, his creativity and innovation are true inspirations for me."

Junior Jordan Mann of Wheeling has been named the Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education Student of the Month. Teacher Tim Roe commented, "Jordan takes extraordinary pride in her physical education exercise/stretch/run segment, as well as the activities the class is involved in.  She is on time, prepared for class and enjoys the daily activities. Jordan offers suggestions for class activities, has strong communication skills, and works extremely well with the other students in class."
