BGHS Names February Students of the Month

An exceptional student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as February Student of the Month.

Senior Cherisse Padovano of Buffalo Grove was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by culinary arts teacher, Ronna Dec. "Cherisse is part of our ProStart program at BGHS," Dec said. "She is involved in the student-run restaurant, the Bison Grill, which serves paying customers once a month. Cherisse is a recipient of a Robert Morris Culinary School Scholarship and is a member of the National Technical Honors Society. She is a teacher intern for Foods 1 and is very involved in the art of pastry.  Cherisse is a determined individual upon whom staff can rely. She is a wonderful representative of our school and our program."

The World Languages/Social Sciences/English Language Learners division has chosen freshman Sanjar Shokosimov of Buffalo Grove. English Language Learners (ELL) teacher Stephanie Ramos commented, "Sanjar arrived to the U.S. in August and has worked very hard to acclimate to his new surroundings.  Every day he is ready to work, engaged and just a delight in class. He is very inquisitive and works well independently and with his peers. I am very proud of him for all the progress he has made in such a short time."

Senior Eleanore Chan of Buffalo Grove is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts. Art teacher Jordie Field nominated her for the honor with the comment, "Eleanore continues to push herself in art class. She is constantly trying new techniques with success in both her two and three-dimensional artwork.  Eleanore has always worked independently on her projects with sophisticated results. She represents herself and BGHS well."

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected senior Mary Guth of Arlington Heights to be recognized this month. Dance teacher Jamie Kapsimalis said, "Mary is early to class, always prepared, and has a great attitude. She has just the right way of promoting the dance skills that we work on in class. Mary is a respectful student and enjoys P.E. class. She also has good fitness scores!"

Sophomore Max Farbman of Arlington Heights is the Math/Science honoree.  Science teacher Andy Park said, "Max is an outstanding chemistry student. His ability to problem-solve and visualize abstract concepts is without peer. This is not only reflected in his class grade, but also in his questions and discussion of the material. His tremendous ability is only muted by his humbleness, for his manners and respectfulness are very apparent."
