BGHS Names February Students of the Month

An outstanding student was selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School.

Junior Tracy Goznikar of Arlington Heights was nominated by foods teacher Ronna Dec of Career Technology Education as the department's honoree. "Tracy has already completed Foods 1, Foods 2, ProStart1 and ProStart 2 and is going to be my Prostart teacher intern for the 2011/2012 school year," Dec said. "She is a student that I rely on when situations need special attention and I need to ensure a professional outcome.  Tracy intends on furthering her culinary experience by completing Culinary School, following graduation from BGHS.  I have no doubt that Tracy will be a successful chef and I look forward to eating in her restaurant some day."     

The Social Science/World Languages/English Language Learners division has chosen junior Teodora Dimitrova of Arlington Heights. Social science teacher Heidi Haen commented, "Tedy is a conscientious student who gets all of her work done with great attention to detail and excellent standards. She has shown an abundance of leadership in the classroom by helping out her peers and volunteering in class, which sets an example for the other students to follow. Tedy is simply a pleasure to have in class!"      

Senior Anna Karwowska of Arlington Heights is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts. Art teacher Jordie Field nominated her for the honor with the comment, "Anna displays leadership in her Advanced Placement Studio Art class by demonstrating a desire to excel, improve, and continually complete artwork in a timely manner. She is articulate about her artwork and can critique work with both teacher and peer alike. Anna is a model student and is a pleasure to have in class. She is a positive influence on other students and her artwork is progressing and improving with every piece."

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected senior Kenneth Cooper of Arlington Heights to be recognized this month. Physical education teacher Teri Janus said, "Ken is the epitome of a class team leader.  When required, Ken is a self-advocate and an advocate for others. His strong work ethic is evident in his daily enthusiastic participation. Ken has the ability to ask diligent questions while maintaining trust and integrity. He treats his peers with empathy and his teachers with respect. Ken's personal attributes will take him through life with success."     

Sophomore Mary Zawlocki of Buffalo Grove is the Math/Science honoree.  Chemistry teacher Kate Konkel said, "Mary is very invested in her academics. She is genuinely kind, helpful to her peers, and is an athlete. I don't know if I have ever had a more well-rounded student."

Student Services has named junior John Delgado of Buffalo Grove as Student of the Month. Individual Resource teacher Stacey Baylen commented, "John displays a good attitude and has been more motivated to be successful than he has ever been! He has earned very solid grades and I am very proud of the progress he has made during the first three years of his high school experience."
