BGHS Names April Students of the Month

An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as April Student of the Month.

Sophomore John Ser of Arlington Heights was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by teacher and Division Head Randy Hoff.  "John is a second year member of the BGHS Robotics Team," Hoff said. "His leadership and expertise helped this year's team sweep four out of the top five spots in the District 214 Annual Robot Competition. When there is a difficult concept to research or figure out, John is the 'go-to' person for a solution."

The Social Science/World Languages/English Language Learners division has chosen senior Juan Sanchez of Mount Prospect. English Language Learners teacher Stephanie Ramos commented, "I would like to nominate Juan (for this honor) because of his hard work and dedication. He has experienced remarkable improvement in a variety of ways since his freshman year. I am so proud of him and I am excited to acknowledge his academic and personal growth, as well as his impressive efforts."

Sophomore Joseph Cavaiani of Arlington Heights is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts. Choral director Debora Utley nominated him for the honor with the comment, "Joe is a member of Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and Expressions, and performed in both the Fall Play and Spring Musical this year. He is a very dedicated musician/performer and a very important part of many of our programs."

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected senior Kyle Chamberlain of Buffalo Grove to be recognized this month. Gymnastics coach and teacher Chris Stevens said, "Kyle is in the gymnastics class during fifth period, which is a challenging class for a lot of the beginning gymnastics students. He is always willing to demonstrate and to help out with teaching skills to others. Kyle also is very happy to help when there is a substitute teacher, and runs to warm up and stretch to get the class started."

Senior Sean Kelly of Arlington Heights is the Math/Science honoree. Advanced Placement Chemistry teacher Andy Park said, "Sean has recently raised the bar when it comes to predicting reaction products, one of the most difficult types of questions on the AP Chemistry exam. On our last reaction quiz, he scored a perfect 20.  He has embraced college level chemistry and is thriving. In a senior class that is packed with standout performers, Sean definitely deserves to be among them."
