Saint Mary Keeps Traditions Strong by Celebrating Homecoming

St. Mary School celebrates their 43rd annual homecoming with a week of spirit, junior high dance, a pancake breakfast, band & bike parade and Flag, JV and Varsity Football games.

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 sprit and enthusiasm surrounded the football field of Saint Mary School Buffalo Grove located at Lake Cook & Buffalo Grove Roads.  Hopeful fans congregated as Saint Mary Bison celebrated their 43rd annual homecoming.   The Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams big wins against Lake Forest Country Day School made the day a huge success.

The homecoming festivities began on Monday with all students wearing Saint Mary Spirit wear, clothing representing any school activity or anything black and gold, along with a special pizza lunch.  The festivities continued all week with crazy hair day, wear your favorite sports jersey & jeans, and you’re your best dress up day.  The school week ended Friday with a school Pep Rally and the junior high homecoming dance.

Saturday began with the annual Alumni/Player Pancake Breakfast.  Many thanks to the Continental Restaurant for donating pancake batter and sausages!  After a hearty breakfast teams took to the field. The Flag teams kicked-off the morning.  Saint Mary Gold Flag vs. Saint Mary Black Flag.  Saint Mary won, yes in flag football, when you play your classmates all are winners.

Principal Nikki Raftery welcomed the fans & players from Lake Forest Country Day School at the start of the JV game.  The JV cheerleaders, in traditional fashion, held the banner for the JV football team to rush through as Principal Raftery announced each player.  An exciting game pursued with the Bison only 1 point ahead at half time.  Victory belonged to Saint Mary Bison as the JV won 25-12.

The Saint Mary Marching Band entered the field at 11:45am, directed by Mr. Richard Case. The traditional flag parade around the field ensued with the band marching behind playing the Star Spangled Banner, Grand Old Flag and America the Beautiful.   The fans “in training” Pre-K thru 2nd grade rode their decorated spirited bicycles around the field just before the Varsity teams kick-off.  The smell of victory wasn’t the only scent in the air as fans of both teams were able to enjoy hotdogs and hamburgers provided by Dorfler’s Meat Market & Catering throughout the day.  It was an exciting game and a victorious day as Saint Mary Bison Varsity won 28-19.  Congratulations Saint Mary, keeping traditions strong, Go Bison
