7th Grade Saint Mary Science Fair

Saint Mary School Science Fair winners prepare to go to regionals

Congratulations to all of the Saint Mary School Buffalo Grove seventh grade students who participated in the School Science Fair on Friday, December 14, 2012.
Thank you to the more than 50 volunteers from the St. Mary parish and
the community who helped judge the event, it was a huge success.  The science fair inspires our students in their scientific endeavors and encourages them to give back to the community.  The participation and interaction of the judges with our students sets a wonderful example of giving back for our students.  The students appreciate all those who took time to share their talents in the judging
process.  The Saint Mary top winner:  Jeremy Y.  Physics Project, “Roll With It”.  The remaining top finishers are: Maddie M., “Recipe for Disaster”, Robert R. “Importance of Arm Motion in Sprint”, Danny B.  “Styrofoam Vs. Paper”, Madeline G.   “Don’t Get Me Sick”, Jeremy R.  “Aerodynamic Shapes & Wind Resistance”, Daniel D. “What do Fish Prefer?”, Bianca V. “Ol’Faithful Soda Edition”, Emily P. “Does Lake Michigan Contain Coliform Bacteria?”, Patricia D. “Color Memory”.

The students went through a rigorous judging process based on 3 categories; scientific method, oral presentation and their display.  Each of the categories has 3-4 sub categories for judging.

We wish all of the students the best of luck as they prepare for the Regional Competition.  The Regional IJAS (Illinois Junior Academy of
Science Regional Competition) is held on March 9th at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL.  A special thank you to Mr. Ron Lewis for all his time and dedication helping the children prepare for the event.   The children have learned so much about the wonderful world of science.
