WHS Prepares For Homecoming, Other Events

Wheeling High School's homecoming will take place next week. Student Council has been preparing and planning new events for the week. Also, this post includes other events that are coming up at WHS.

Homecoming
Students, staff and activities around WHS prepare for Homecoming, which takes place next week.
The theme of this year’s Homecoming is Destination Paradise.  Student Council planned more events this year.
The Coronation assembly will take place during Block B on Monday, Sept. 26, instead of Friday like the previous years.
“We just switched Coronation to give the Senior Stars, the King and Queen more limelight,” Sandra Chico, social studies teacher and student council adviser, said.
Also, they will host a pool party from 7 to 9 p.m. at the WHS pool and a movie night  from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m on Sept. 27 at the football field.  Poms and Crucial Step Clique will perform at movie night.
“These give students activities to participate in, more fun and more school spirit,” Ms. Chico said.
On Wednesday, Sept. 28, Student Council will host a breakfast for the Homecoming Court and Senior Stars.
As usual, the pep assembly will take place on Friday, Sept. 30.  Planned activities at the assembly include a class tug-of-war competition, a staff pie-in-the-face and penny war results.
For the homecoming football game that night, the Wildcats will play against the Prospect Knights.
The Homecoming Dance will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 1.
“Right now, we’re getting coronation ceremony planned, and after that, we’re trying to get everything organized because we pre-planned all of this,” Kristina Piamonte, junior and student council member, said.
Throughout the week, Student Council will have lunch time activities.  However, this year, they will host some activities outside, weather-permitting.  These activities include a water-baloon toss, obstacle course, dunk tank and boat race.
“The overall reason is to increase school spirit, student participation and create a fun atmosphere for at least a week,” Ms. Chico said.
Other clubs around the school will decorate classroom doors for the annual door decorating contest.
“We’ve been working after school, and we’re coming this weekend to decorate our door,” Angela Hawkins, Italian teacher and Italian club sponsor, said.  “We will take our theme, Destination Paradise, to Venice.”
